Why the Jersey Shore needs it

Why Shore Properties Flood

On the Shore, water doesn’t only come from the ocean. Nor’easters stack tides over several cycles, northeast winds push water into Barnegat Bay and the back bays, and heavy rain lands on top of high tide when storm drains can’t empty. Many homes flood at street level through garage doors and ground-floor entries, even when the beach holds.

The Sept 25–28, 2026 nor’easter showed it again, with back-bay water in streets, garages and storefronts up and down the Shore.

FAQ

Jersey Shore Flood Barrier Questions

Do I need barriers if I’m not on the ocean?

Often, yes. Much of the Shore’s worst flooding is back-bay and lagoon flooding, which reaches streets well away from the beach.

How fast can the barriers go up?

Most residential door panels can be put in place in minutes by one or two people. We show you how during the walkthrough.

Are barriers permanent or removable?

Usually both: permanent low-profile tracks stay mounted, and the panels come out only when flooding is forecast.

Will barriers lower my flood insurance?

We can’t promise insurance outcomes. Ask your agent how mitigation is treated under your policy.

Can you protect a garage door?

Yes. Garage barriers are sized to each opening’s width and the height you need.

Do you work on rentals and commercial properties?

Yes: shore homes, rentals, condos, restaurants and storefronts.

Are you licensed in New Jersey?

Yes. EMT Roofing & Siding LLC d/b/a FloodSafe, NJ HIC #13VH13177500.
